New Moody Blue Devil coach Adam Wallace got a good look at his football team with a Blue and White scrimmage last Friday night. The next time the team takes the field will be the start of fall camp for the upcoming season.
The first drive of the game was scheduled for 10 plays no matter what. The white team offense got going quickly. Running back Terrance Moore broke free for a long run on the third play of the drive. Three plays later quarterback Karson Buckner connected with Syric Williams for a 40 touchdown pass. There were no extra points in this game so the white team took a 6 – 0 lead.
The next three possessions were turnovers. Jordan Maxwell got a pick for the Blue team, Dustin Singleton followed with a fumble recovery for the white and Rashad Clark got a pick for the Blue team.
The white team offense got back on track with Buckner connecting with Williams for a 25 yard gain down to the 40 yard line. Buckner then connected Justin Blankenship for a first down gain. Buckner once again connected with Williams, this time on back to back plays. A 12 yard pass play put the offense at the 12 yard line. On the very next play the tandem, connected for a 12 yard touchdown.
Bucker connected with one other play maker for two touchdowns. He hit future play maker Javion Carrel for touchdown passes of 70 and 61 yards. All in all the white team got the best of the blue team.
THE COACH’S VIEW
The offseason is now underway for the Blue Devils. It will be the first offseason for new Head Coach Adam Wallace with the Blue Devils. The Spring Training season was a huge success for the Blue Devils in Coach Wallace’s eyes.
“This offseason will be very big for us,” said Coach Wallace. “I was very excited about the Spring Training turnout. We ended up with 78 kids on the roster. Some kids looked really good. The excitement is high around here.”
Players to watch:
Quarterback Karson Buckner will be entering his senior season. The senior quarterback put up a great showing in the spring game last week and looks to carry that momentum and new found confidence into next season. Other players to watch are Rashad Clark, Syani Williams, Terrance Moore, and Javion Carrel on offense. Mason Shockley, Aiden Calvert, Joel McCormick, Christian Archer, and Conner Rush on defense.
“The schedule is very tough, and the region is going to be very competitive,” said Coach Wallace. Moody’s season will start on the road at Etowah on August 31. The Blue Devils region will consist of rivals St. Clair and Springville, Sylacauga, Center Point, and Mortimer Jordan. Central Clay and Munford jumped across the bridge from Leeds’ schedule to Moody’s Region. The non-region games are Etowah, Shelby County, and Talladega.
